Fixing All Sorts of Stuff, part 10

Hey Finfans!,

I’m SO GLAD you finally get to see…well, who is she? More mystery for next time!

I’m actually very excited to announce a SXSW InteractiviZINE!  Next Friday, March 12th I will attend my first SXSW (South by Southwest) Interactive Festival in Austin, TX. It is a five day festival of panels on media, interconnectivity, video games, start-ups, websites plus the impact AND use of technology. As a bit of a gadget girl, I’m frickin’ excited to attend!

However, this convention is in no way cheap. So I am asking you wonderful readers and friends of learning to donate to my SXSW trip and in return I will post my notes, photos and ephemera from the panels online! Everyone benefits when everyone gives a little. I’ll be accepting donations via Paypal from today until March 26th when I return to Vermont . The donations may start at $5 and up because I’m trying to reach about $800! And for the special people who donate, I am sending out a special InteractiviZINE with new comics about the experience, panel notes and a screen printed cover! The zine will serve as a tactile version of the online notes back to the gills with extra goodies!

My usual note taking is teeming with sketches, diagrams and information.  For examples of my prolific picture taking, feel free to visit my Flickr sets. This would be an especially great gift for you, a friend or relative who are unable to make it out to SXSW Interactive this year. I’ll post my SXSW schedule and the panels I’ll be attending shortly! Please click the DONATE link at the top of the site, donate any amount over $5 and get ready to LEARN!

Love,

Jen

Let’s keep track of how much money has been raised for the SXSW trip with a radass rainbow updated on the SXSW InteractivZINE page! Each strip of the rainbow, cloud and book represent $100 raised towards the trip and those juicy panel notes, pictures and ephemera being released to the internet. Keep your eyes peeled for new colors  and please feel free to link the SXSW InteractiviZINE page to your friends, families and colleagues.

Hahaha, was there ever a doubt? Matthew Murray over at 365 Zines a Year and I traded at the Portland Zine Symposium back in July 2009. I wonder if this is the way ALL guys read my comics, probably not but it was quite refreshing. Toodle around his site and have a great time! However, Matthew cut off my address as seen below probably to protect you guys. If YOU want an engorgement charm, just send $2 to PO Box 141, Hartford, VT 05047.

This week was the week of FAN ART and me churning out the pages. The first was for Liz Baillie’s Freewheel webcomic and in appreciation of her Freewheel Campout that I spoke about before. To see said marvelous work of some TREEHOUSE FUN and her comic please check it out after the jump. She’s so close to making the $2,500 for her book printing, it HURTS! Anyone who donates receives incentives so please check it out.

The other work was for fun to give to my good friend and fellow cartoonist, Nomi Kane. We were watching the Last Unicorn and I was thus inspired to make something with us plus some ‘corns! If you are interested at all in Unicorns, the Red Bull or some sweetass America music, you’ll be happy to know that IDW is coming out with a six-part comic book in April! My friend also runs a Twitter feed with great Last Unicorn Art finds so if you want to know more, follow ‘im!

More fan art to come!

Do you like Mermaid Hostel?! Do you like MAIL?! Do you like screen-printed art?! E-mail me your address (inkyjen@gmail.com) by this Friday the 12th at 8am and you shall receive a special V-Day postcard specially screen-printing by yours truly! Even if you think I have your address, do it anyway or else I’ll think you do not want one.

P.S. I promise not to do anything creepy like crash on your couch or send you excessive amounts of expired coupons for poodle haircuts.

Liz Baillie! She's got the powers of Awesome (and levitation)

Liz Baillie! She's got the powers of Awesome (and levitation)

January, the month of cloudy days and cold winds. We stay inside to preserve the tips of our nose and all our digits but we can live through the stories we read and the comics we love! Liz Baillie, raconteur of the My Brain Hurts comics, recently began posting pages of her comic Freewheel on the internet. The story follows foster child Jamie Lynn and her stuffed animal (Logan the raccoon) as they search for her brother, Jack. After Jack is sent away from their foster home, there is no choice for Jamie but to train-hop to adventure. I’m excited about this series because Baillie captures the voices of her characters easily. Her ability to use the panel for story-telling purposes is absolutely enviable.

Via the beauty of the internet, you can donate money to the Freewheel: Volume One Fundraising Campout for the purpose of printing the webcomic after the first five chapter. Did I mention you receive awesome incentives to do so?! Each level of donation gives you something cool and guaranteed to be touched by Baillie herself. They range from certificates of your authentic awesomeness to commissioned work to signed copies to cameos in later comic chapters! Plus, they are represented by typical hobo campout items such as a can of beans or some hooch. You can check out the specifics over at Liz Baillie’s Freewheel site, read some sweet comics and plunk down some of the sweet holiday cash burning a hole in your patchwork-pants pocket.
