Brandon Elston and me

Friday was great because a)new comic day here at Mermaid Hostel and b)Hillbilly Heaven at the Main Street Museum! We had a patriotic Jell-O cake, sausage and cheeseballs and so many cupcakes. Alec Longstreth made delicious BUTTERBEER and Colleen Frakes brought pocket booze bottles, perfect for nippin’ in church or at work. The real highlight was the concert DumBelle put on for us. They are working on their website but leader Jo Robin has a MySpace page and I took some video of Jo, Makenna and Emily. Here is my own interpretation of a DumBelle/Hillbilly Mama:

All in all it was a swell night full of music, food and fun surrounded by the ever questioning eyes of taxidermied animals and Elvis Presley’s gallstones. Many, many, many thanks to David Fairbanks Ford for letting us use the Main Street Museum. Nomi Kane also made this rip-roaring card for me and I love her dearly for it:

The next day, Morgan Pielli threw me a small dinner party with my two favorite foods (Middle Eastern and Mexican!) and we all played Apples to Apples! Laura Terry bought the BEST fudgy cakes from King Arthur Flour, seriously, I’m not sharing.
